Entry #437

Training has become so routine that I've felt little incentive to make record in the last week. From here on out, I'll have to take a more particular, scientific approach in analysis. I've become comfortable with my style of moving and have done little to alter it. Now, the focus is on becoming more adept with utilizing the maximum amount of force output. In blunt: I'm going to hit harder.

I turned my bag upside down to gain comfortable access to the harder portion. It worked too well. As I was hitting it today, the supporting ring broke off. That makes both sides. I have to buy a new one.

Last Saturday, I helped George out with powerlifting at the gym. It was productive. I saw the old man there again. He was shadowboxing. His punches hit the heavy bag harder and the speed-bag faster than anyone else I've seen there.

  1. You should join a school.  With your serious approach to training, a school with a master and workout partners would make your progress improve ten-fold.
And when are you going to make a video of you hitting the bag like you talked about?
By the way, I've been finding that if I keep my fingers taped up at all times, they heal faster than trying to do hand exercises all the time.  People have been telling me to stretch and clench up my fingers all the time to build back the strength, but I'm not so sure if it's true anymore.  Maybe later, after the ligaments heal.
When you had your toe sprain for 2 month, did you immobilize it the whole time?

  2. I can't make that video until I get a new bag. I didn't predict that I'd break it.I don't know who's been telling you that, but don't stretch out and move around your fingers when they're injured. Practice stability before flexibility. You're right; keep them protected and wrapped. I kept weight off my toe and let it rest. I didn't try to stretch it out. Why try to increase the range of motion when it's injured? More range of motion means more opportunity for the damaged appendage to get hurt.

  3. Damn it!  No wonder they were taking so long to heal!  I got some bad advice from certain people.  But now that I've been keeping them taped up all the time, they are healing a LOT faster.  Oh well, even if I slowed down the healing process before, I've still been getting stronger and getting better at my Kung Fu forms.  And I've been learning.  So when I get back to everything, I'll be sharper than ever.

  4. Damn, I remember talking with you on AIM when you were talking about buying that damn heavybag, and it's broke now.
I'm going to believe that the quality is cheap, rather than me getting old.

  5. Heh. We're none of us getting any younger there Em.

  6. I remember complaining to you about how the shipping for it was delayed.
